Plaid blazer
I have to admit that even though I am a girl who prides herself on pretty much living in hoodies and leggings, I really, REALLY love blazers. I used to feel self-conscious when I wore a blazer; like I was dressing up too much for school or work by wearing one. Especially in my office where everyone dressed very, very casually. Suddenly, I was standing out simply by wanting to dress a little bit nicer, and it made me super uncomfortable!
However, I have completely 180-ed from that opinion recently! Nothing makes you look more classy or put together than a blazer; nothing can completely elevate an outfit like a blazer either! I personally love plaid ones, and who doesn’t love a good plaid print for the fall?
Straight leg jeans
I think that skinny jeans have been a fashion essential since I was in middle school, and it’s finally time for a different cut of jeans to shine! Straight leg jeans have been making a resurgence lately, and fall is the perfect time to invest in a solid pair. Anyone who follows my weekly fashion wrap-ups knows that my absolute favorite pair of straight leg jeans is this pair from Madewell, but Madewell is also coming out with so many different pairs in different washes. My personal picks will be a pair of light wash jeans and a pair of black denim; that’s all you need!
Strappy heels
I’ve been seeing so many fashion editorials featuring an elegant pair of strappy heels for the upcoming season. My favorite part about this particular trend is that a pair of heels can be added to any outfit to really kick it up a notch. These go great with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt for the daytime or a cute dress for a night out. Definitely worth investing in if you are looking to add only one ‘dressy’ pair of shoes to your fall wardrobe!
Slip dress
For those nights when you actually have somewhere to go (seriously, what does that feel like? I can barely remember) or you just feel like dressing up a little more than normal, a slip dress is perfect! They’re comfy, easy to move in, and can be paired with a t-shirt or sweater underneath if you need a little more coverage.
I personally am a fan of silk slip dresses in a midi length. It’s the perfect length for fall when the weather is cooling down! I also think that this is a great piece to add to your closet since it can be worn for so many different occasions in so many different styles. Check out some of my personal favorites above!
Cashmere sweater
Alright, I have a confession to make…..I never owned a single cashmere item until last year. Of course, cashmere is so soft and warm and perfect for cooler temperatures, but I could not get over the fact that cashmere sweaters needed to be dry cleaned. Like who has the time or money for that? Or the willpower?
But then I read that you can actually throw your cashmere pieces in a pillowcase and then place them in the washing machine in order to safely wash them! So much easier than going to the dry cleaner!
I’m personally a fan of turtlenecks (because I am a giraffe, and my neck gets cold), but really, any type of sweater will do! So if you are looking to only grab a few fall fashion staples, this one might be a necessity!
White sneakers
I’ve already waxed poetic about my love for white sneakers, but I’m going to reiterate it today. If you are trying to build a capsule wardrobe or at least purchase some staple items that will never go out of style, go for a nice pair of white sneakers! I am a huge fan of a simple, understated shoe for the fall, and you just cannot go wrong with some white sneakers! I am also not at all a believer in the idea that you can’t wear white after Labor Day. Whose idea even was that? I’m not sure who decided to try to ban an entire color for a season, but I will keep wearing white all year long!
I’ve picked out a few of my favorites (all were highlighted in my previous post) for you guys to take a look at if you need some guidance! My personal favorites are the Nikes. I have wide feet with a high arch, and I find these to be incredibly comfortable.
White booties
In a similar vein to the white sneakers, I am really loving white booties! Again, I am a massive fan of a simple, understated shoe, and white booties definitely fall into that category while still being an eye-catching piece of your outfit. I admit tht I typically always wear black booties in the fall and winter, but I thyink that white booties are suh a cool way to really elevate your outfit and stay on trend for 2020.
I’m honestly loving white boots simply because I am still wearing something similar to what I would have worn last year, but just by changing my boots from black to white, I look so much trendier! AND there are so many adorable options to choose from! It’s one of those fall fashion staples that is new, but I hope it is here to stay for years to come!
A coat that suits you
Since fall is when the weather starts to cool down, a coat is one of those no-brainer fall fashion staples. And though winter time is when I rock a floor-length padded parka (no shame; I’m always cold), fall is when I opt for something a little more stylish that really flatters me! Have fun with it! There are so many different kinds of coats available, so take a look at what retailers are offering and figure out which ones speak to you!
I am a big fan of short sherpa coats because I like to always feel like I’m wrapped in a blanket, but I also love a classic trench coat. Fall is the perfect time of year for classic fashion pieces that have stood the test of time, so rest assured that whatever you choose definitely will not be going out of style any time soon!
Gold hoops
In terms of accessories for the fall season, you cannot go wrong with a solid pair of gold hoops! I think that the size of those hoops will very much depend on the person, but I am really loving chunky hoops this time of year! You really can’t go wrong with hoop earrings–they look great on everyone and are amazing year-round. They look great for daytime and nighttime as well as work and play. I’m linking a few of my favorites in a variety of sizes!
A white tee
As far as fall fashion staples go, this one is probably the easiest to nail down. Odds are, you already have a plain white t-shirt that you absolutely love, and that’s great! If you don’t, I’m here for you!
A plain white shirt is an amazing staple piece because it can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair it with–perfect for anyone who is trying to build a capsule wardrobe or just keep the number of clothing they are buying to a minimum. My absolute favorite place to buy t-shirts is Everlane. Not only is their clothing made in factories that are ethical and pay livable wages, but they are sturdy, structured, and reasonably-priced! I linked a few of my favorites above.
A sleek bodysuit
I am a fan of bodysuits year-round. They create such a nice silhouette, and you never have to worry about your shirt coming un-tucked throughout the day! Personally, fall fashion is all about staple pieces that look minimalist yet stylish, and bodysuits fall into that category. They pair nicely with coats and blazers and can be worn for any occasion! I have had a lot of luck finding nice bodysuits from Abercrombie in a variety of styles. I own a lot of their satin cami bodysuits, but their wrap-style bodysuits and v-neck bodysuits are amazing as well–and perfect for fall!
Loafers
In terms of fall fashion staples that I have not yet tried but am definitely adding to my closet this year, loafers are at the tippy top of that list! I admit that I am a huge fan of shoes that I do not have to zip up or tie (or really pause to put on at all). This means that loafers are very much in my element.
On top of being easy to slide on as I’m walking out the door, they are so stylish and cute and perfect for fall! Loafers can be worn year-round, so don’t be afraid to invest in a solid pair that will last for years and years. I linked a few from some reliable companies that always made really solid, comfy shoes.
