Oh, Sephora….my light, my love.
I remember my first Sephora outing when I was twenty years old (I was a late bloomer make-up wise). I went with a friend who seemed to know her way around an eye shadow palette, and was immediately overwhelmed. First of all, all of the store associates were GORGEOUS, and their makeup looked so nice! Second of all, I didn’t realize until I stepped onto that glossy floor under the bright lights just how much makeup there is in the world. So many different brands, so many different products, and so many different shades!
I was intimidated; plain and simple.
Luckily for me, my friend took my money and purchased all of the things that she thought would be good for someone just beginning to dabble with makeup. I left the store with my first set of makeup brushes, an Urban Decay Makeup pallette, and some tinted moisturizer from Laura Mercier.
And that was where my love for makeup began.
First of all, I will give credit where is due. My friend nailed it with her cosmetic suggestions (I still have all of the things that I bought and use them fairly frequently), but not everyone has a guardian angel to help them navigate the sheer volume of makeup products on the market today.
For anyone who may be just starting to experiment with makeup, anyone who is having a hard time justifying spending much money on something you put on your face for a few hours, or anyone who is just looking for some new products to play with, I am here to help!
Today, I have rounded up a few of my all-time favorite makeup products from Sephora that I just cannot part from. These are products that I continually return to and just cannot find a substitute for; the products that I firmly believe are completely worth their sometimes lofty price tags.

I’m here to preach the good word about primers.
I admit that I really didn’t start to consistently incorporate a primer into my makeup routine until about a year ago. Now that I have, I am so mad that I never did so earlier!
I have dry skin and have always struggled with my makeup clinging to ANY patch of dryness it could find on my face. When I did try a few primers, they felt so watery in their consistencies, and I never noticed any changes in my face. Not so encouraging to see when you are forking over pretty generous sums only for the BASE of your makeup.
And then I tried this gem from Bobbi Brown, and I have been converted to the church of makeup primers.
To be completely honest, I was so nervous about spending $60 on a primer. However, I have a friend who swears by Bobbi Brown products, so I decided to try it.
This primer feels like luxury and smells like heaven. It has more of a mousse-like consistency which was perfect for someone who needs every extra bit of moisture they can get! And, best of all, I have seen a noticeable difference with how long my foundation lasts throughout the day. It provides the perfect layer that gives your foundation something to adhere to. Without primer, your foundation will seep into your skin instead–revealing those fine lines and blemishes that we all have.
Not all primers are successful at doing that, so I find that the price tag is completely justified with this particular product. And you only need to use a tiny amount each day, so it lasts a long time!
Hi, my name is Marina, and I am addicted to highlight.
I am an unabashed highlight aficionado. Even on days when I am sporting a bare face, I still remember to apply a little bit of highlighter. I am obsessed with having radiant, glowing skin–naturally or enhanced a bit with makeup (I even had a drag queen compliment my highlighter game, so clearly I know what’s up).
This particular highlighter is such a gem. I have tried and loved all varieties, but I always find myself going back to cream highlighters–particularly this one from Benefit.
This one provides the perfect balance between subtle, natural glow in some lighting and the “angel descending from heaven” highlight goodness in other lighting. In my eyes, no other can compare, so I can always justify splurging a bit on this one!
I carry this pencil in this shade pretty much everywhere I go. It is such a perfect rosy pink that I find very flattering on many skin tones. I am not one for experimenting too much with lip color. Typically, I like to stick to my subtle reds and pinks and try to keep things pretty neutral. This lip pencil is perfect for just that.
I have actually found myself reaching for this one a lot even when I am wearing no makeup at all! Adding a little bit of lip color does wonders in terms of making you look more put together with minimal effort.
At first, I was reluctant to drop more than $10 on a lip product; however, I do think that this one is worth the price. It applies so smoothly (like satin, go figure), and is just a very rich, lovely color. NARS actually has a really solid line-up in terms of lip colors, so definitely try them out if you can!
I’ve never been one for a thick, high coverage foundation. I find that unless I am going to an event or somewhere that I would need to dress up for (read: pretty much never), I don’t see why I need that much coverage. This is where tinted moisturizers and CC creams come in.
For the uninitiated, a CC cream–or color correcting cream–works to both cover your skin like a light-to-medium coverage foundation and correct any underlying skin issues. Essentially, it’s a BB cream with the additional coverage.
When I first heard about this CC cream, I admit that I was hesitant. It seemed a little much to spend $40 on something that was on the lighter side coverage-wise and was’t very large. Hey, if I’m going to spend that much, I want a gallon of product!
Well, I bought it, and I am happy to say that my reservations were for naught.
First of all, a little bit of this product goes a long way. You only need a teeny tiny little dab to cover your entire face. The coverage is honestly much better than I was expecting and doesn’t cake on your face like many full coverage foundations tend to do. Lastly, the additional SPF is so appreciated for a pale girl like me. I try to integrate SPF every way that I can! I have re-purchased this product several times and will definitely continue to do so. This is a great every day foundation!
My last pick is pretty well-known, but I just had to throw my two cents out there because this product definitely falls into the category of makeup products from Sephora that are well-worth your money.
Before I discovered the magic of setting sprays, I was constantly frustrated about how my makeup would not last through the day. By the time I would come home from work, it was like I wasn’t wearing any foundation at all! I really didn’t want to have to lug my makeup pouch into the office bathroom and spend my lunches touching up my face, so I decided to search the internet. There had to be a solution!
And the solution’s name was “All Nighter”.
After using this setting spray, my makeup would not budge! It was amazing! I have a habit of resting my face in my hand when I am sitting at a desk, and my makeup would still stay intact! Even after a nine hour work day, I would come home and wouldn’t need to re-touch anything. This little can of spray has been such a lifesaver!
What are some of your Sephora faves? Any products that you just cannot part from? Any on my list that you are fans of as well? I will be continuing this series with bath/body products as well as hair products, so stay tuned for those posts!
